【 Rommel and North Africa 】 Rommel was the commander of the German Afrikacorps from February 1941 until February 1943, during which time he almost managed to drive the more heavily-numbered Allied forces from Egypt. He showed an ability to adapt to circumstances and surroundings, and also a willingness to lead his forces from the front, becoming the symbol of the German presence in North Africa. The Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.L. went into production in the second half of 1942 and quickly became an important weapon in the Afrikacorps arsenal, with its powerful 50mm main gun.
