【 Sports Elements in a Compact Body 】 The Honda Ballade CR-X was a two-seater with compact proportions which debuted in July 1983. The hatchback body had a drag coefficient of just 0.33 and incorporated high-strength, yet lightweight materials. The CR-X was powered by either a 1.3-liter or 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. The latter was equipped with the same PGM-F1 electronic fuel injection system as Honda's F-1 racing engines, which allowed the 1,488cc engine to produce 110hp and push the CR-X to a top speed of 180km/h. Suspension-wise, the CR-X was equipped with a front strut-type suspension with a torsion bar to enable a low nose profile, as well as a rear rigid-type suspension with trailing arms and a Panhard rod. This simple and effective set-up gave the CR-X superb road-holding characteristics and contributed to its reputation as a fun-to-drive sports car.

【 Open-Top City 】 The Honda City, which enjoyed immense popularity when it was originally released due to its unique proportions, was released as a convertible in July 1984. Its fully-retractable roof was co-developed with Italian car design company Pininfarina S.p.A., which gave the car a stylish appearance. The car was powered by a 67hp 4-cylinder 1,231cc CVCC engine and incorporated a lower final gear ratio to enable nimble performance. The exterior also featured large fenders and front & rear bumpers adapted from the City Turbo II "Bulldog" to give the car a stylish accent. The City Cabriolet was offered in 12 different body colors to give customers the sense that their vehicle was bespoke.

【 Toyota's First Group C Racer 】 Toyota raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours race from 1985, and in order to win the championship title in 1989, they developed the 88C-V racer. The beautifully sculptured body featured superb aerodynamics thanks to intensive wind tunnel testing. Powering the machine was an R32V 3.2-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine which pumped out an impressive 800hp. The 88C-V debuted at Round 4 Fuji 500 Miles in the All Japan Sports Prototype Car Championships in 1988 and took a remarkable 7th place qualifying position. During the final, it demonstrated excellent potential with its high speed but was forced to retire due to mechanical trouble. The season was challenging for the team but the valuable race data gained from this season led to an improved version, the 89C-V.

【 The Off-Road King 】 The Toyota Land Cruiser has received the trust and confidence of outdoorsmen from all over the world. This highly respected vehicle was completely redesigned in October 1989 and part of the 2nd generation Land Cruiser line-up released in 1989 was the Land Cruiser 80 VX Limited. Built for the toughest off-road terrain, the Land Cruiser featured a full ladder frame and incorporated a full-time 4WD system with coil spring damped suspension to provide the driver with optimum off-road performance as well as superb ride comfort. The Toyota Land Cruiser drew much attention by setting a new standard of off-road vehicles.
